Overview
The DMS Insights Hub rolls up your DMS sales and service data into a single, easy-to-read view, making it easier to spot trends at both the group and store level.
A note on DMS data: DMS data lags behind real-time activity, so the report defaults to the previous full month. Keep this in mind when reviewing recent numbers.
The Top-Level View
When the report loads, you'll see performance over time with sales on the left and service on the right. Use the filters at the top to adjust the time period, sale deal type, and store or group.
Sales Metrics
• Front-End Gross: Profit on the vehicle itself — sale price minus acquisition cost.
• Back-End Gross: Profit on F&I add-ons like service contracts, GAP, and maintenance plans.
• Total Deal Profit: Pulled directly from your DMS, which may factor in pack, holdback, or commissions. This will not always equal front-end plus back-end gross — every store calculates it differently.
Fixed Ops Metrics
Total Sales: Total dollars billed through the service department.
Total Costs: Includes standard cost plus warranty and internal cost where applicable.
Gross Profit: Total sales minus total costs.
Service Retention Rate: The percentage of vehicle buyers who return for service within the retention window (typically 14 months). Shown only for stores with enough historical data.
Data Completeness Warnings
If a store may have incomplete data for the selected period, a warning appears at the top of the report. Click it to see which stores and date ranges are affected. These gaps may reflect actual slow days or normal DMS lag — review and decide what fits your dealership.
Store-Level Drill-Down
Each rooftop is listed below the group summary with its own profit numbers. Click the drill-down button next to a store to see its detail page, where sales and service profit can be broken down by:
Condition: New vs. used.
Deal Type: Personal vs. business.
Salesperson or Technician: Ranked top or bottom by profit contribution.
Op Code Description: Which service operations drive the most or least profit.
Use the ranking control on each breakdown to switch between top and bottom views or change how many rows display.
Customer Activity Summary
At the bottom of the store page, you can see the actual underlying deals and repair orders. Filter sales by salesperson or finance manager, and service by service advisor, to drill all the way down to the transaction level.
Wrapping Up
The report is simple on the surface but has plenty of depth in the drill-downs. Spend a few minutes exploring the filters and breakdowns to get a feel for the data. Reach out to your account team with any questions.
